About Hoosier Heroes

Hoosier Heroes® is a program of Indiana Dollars for Scholars created to provide an opportunity for Indiana junior and senior high school students to identify Indiana citizens who have made significant contributions to society and who serve as role models and inspirational figures for youth.

Ten winning nominations were selected for 2010 —two from each of the following five categories:

The top 10 nominations will each receive a $2,000 postsecondary scholarship*, presented at the Hoosier Heroes Celebration in Indianapolis on May 6, 2010. Their Heroes will also receive a $2,000 scholarship* to designate to the Indiana high school of their choice. Visit our 2010 Winners Page to meet this year's recipients!

Hoosier Heroes® was created to:

• Provide an opportunity for Indiana students to identify Indiana citizens who have made significant contributions to society and who serve as role models and inspirational figures for youth
• Develop an appreciation for outstanding Hoosiers who have overcome life obstacles and/or accomplished significant goals
• Create a sense of pride in being from Indiana
• Provide an interesting, fun and motivating educational activity for high school students and teachers
• Provide scholarships to Indiana students

Indiana Dollars for Scholars

Hoosier Heroes is a program of Indiana Dollars for Scholars. Dollars for Scholars® is a network of community-based, volunteer-operated scholarship foundations in cities, towns and neighborhoods in Indiana and across the U.S. Indiana Dollars for Scholars’ mission is to expand access to postsecondary education and to encourage the educational preparation of Hoosier students. Dollars for Scholars chapters were first established in Indiana in 1964. Since then, nearly $40 million has been contributed in Indiana to local Dollars for Scholars programs for community scholarships.
